Publima was founded in 1966 by Antoon Mahieu. At that time (illuminated) signwriting was a traditional craft. Computers, simulations, adhesive letters and LED lighting were still a long way off. The sign-painter's talent was all that mattered. Publima focused on creative projects that would really allow them to stand out.
In the late 1990s, Tom Mahieu took over the business, developing Publima further and successfully integrating some new technologies. A number of larger clients and organisations also found their way to Publima. Word-of-mouth advertising has always been the largest driver of our growth.
Publima is still growing and in 2009 Tom decided to concentrate on the creative and architectural side and scale back his operational activities. He transferred the management of Publima to Koen Bossuyt, but he is still involved in maintaining the creative vision. Koen Bossuyt boasts a strong technological background and extensive experience of LED work throughout the world.
